Can You Receive Donor Hair from another Person for Hair Transplants
This is an ear-raising question in the hair transplant world that, can we get the donor hair from another person? As it is the boon in the modern medicine that we can successfully receive the organ transplant such as heart, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, intestines, corneas, and other organs, but it is not possible to transplant the hair by taking the hair from another person’s scalp. The hair transplant procedure gives the natural hair back by extracting the hair roots from the patient’s own body; it is done either by the FUT hair transplant technique or through the FUE method. However, the answer to the above question is, ‘No; we cannot receive donor hair from another person for hair transplants.
In this article, we are mentioning the Fact explains that Why is it Not Possible to Receive Donor Hair from another person for Hair Transplants:
- Immune System rejects the hair of another Person: Every individual has their own immune system and would see another person’s hair as foreign invaders and destroy them quickly as a response. The immune system acts as a boosting agent for encouraging the response action against the infection and diseases. However, it acts as a body that supports the favourable action for the growth of the body. If the roots are extracted from another person the scalp spontaneously rejects the grafted hair as body views as foreign invaders. Thus, it is not possible to receive donor hair from another person’s scalp or body for the hair transplants.
- Cannot prescribe the Immunosuppression: If a patient has organ transplant such as kidney, lung, heart or pancreas, the surgeon prescribe particular anti-rejection drugs due to which body does not reject the transplanted organ even it is taken out from another patient’s body. As a matter of fact, the anti-rejection drugs or the immunosuppression is not allowed unless there is a significant medical condition as these drugs have many potential side effects. The immunosuppression drugs are allowed for the hair transplant procedure because the case of hair loss or baldness is not a medical condition nor comes under the disease or infection. However, the transplantation procedure is only possible if the hair is extracted from the patient’s own body.
- Hair Transplant in Identical Twins: If the hair transplant procedure is performed between identical twins, the chances of rejection are null or zero as they have the same genetic composition in their body that easily accept the hair roots and doesn’t behave the roots as a foreign invader. Therefore, it is possible to transplant the hair by taking the hair roots from the identical twin without the need for anti-rejection drugs.
- If a bone marrow Transplant were Performed: The bone marrow transplant is performed when a patient is affected by the blood cancer and this procedure of transplant replaces the overall immune and blood system of the patient’s body. The bone marrow transplant allows the body’s immune system to accept the hair roots via the hair transplant and make them able to regrow permanently. Since the bone marrow transplant have been replaced the overall immune systems and makes them able to behave just like the donor person’s body and blood systems. However, the hair transplant procedure performed in the candidate who had the bone marrow transplant from the same patient to whom he receives the hair, the body doesn’t behave the transplanted hair as a foreign invader. Thus, in this particular situation, the hair transplant would be possible.
But, in general, it is not possible to perform a hair transplant surgery by extracting/harvesting the hair roots from another person. Thus, it is always advisable to go through the primary consultation to know your present status of hair loss as well as the available safe donor hair to perform the right technique of hair transplant at a right time.
